Sigma Iota Alpha, or Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, sometimes referred to as SIA, was founded September, 1990 by women from SUNY Albany, Stonby Brook University, SUNY New Paltz and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). SIA participates in local national and international community service and promotes cultural, educational and social events.
Sigma Iota Alpha has enjoyed tremendous growth since its conception and now has over 50 chapters. Sigma Iota Alpha strives to spread awareness of diverse cultures to their members and the communities they serve, to promote sisterhood and leadership, and to serve as exemplars in education and achievement among women.
Sigma Iota Alpha supports several initiatives including: Children International, Women for Women International, Special Olympics, March of Dimes, and local initiatives.
